KATE DAUMEN
Age: 17
Hometown: Palatine, Illinois
Why she came to this camp: "Because I have no idea what I want to do in future and this is a good start to see if I want this. Also, it's part of the college life so I want to see if I like this college."
Who’s your go to band or artist when you can’t decide on something to listen to?
"Oh, One Direction! That is what I've been listening to since about 2010... I have multiple favorite songs- Walking in the Wind, 18... yeah! [My favorite band member is] Harry."
What age do you wish you could permanently be?
"24 because you are legal for anything and you've basically got out of college. It's when you first start fresh in a new world and you're still young but you're also mature."
What would be your ideal way to spend the weekend?
"Probably having dinner with my family but then after hanging out with friends till about midnight."
What are you interested in that most people haven’t heard of?
"Playing a game called Rummikub with my family... it's basically Rummy but with tiles, like chips with numbers on them."
What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from home?
"I've been to Jamaica and I've been to England... so England. [I visited] London, the Lake District, and Bath... in 2011."
What could you give a 40-minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation?
"Probably facts about One Direction!"
What is the most heartwarming thing you’ve ever seen?
"Like a proposal probably, like in a nice way. That's all I can think of right now."
What’s the best thing that happened to you last week?
"Having my two year-old cousin who I'd never met become best friends [with me] within an hour."
What fad or trend do you hope comes back?
"As a joke I'd say gaucho pants...yes! Because I used to wear those so much as a kid...I would never wear them ever again, but I'd just love to see that!"
Where is the most relaxing place you’ve ever been?
"Probably a beach in North Carolina called Oak Island."
Favorite quote: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." - Dr. Seuss
